kmlheadshotDr. Kristina M. LaPlant is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Georgia State University in 2019. On December 3, 2019, she successfully defended her dissertation which typologizes stereotype content in campaign advertisements and measures the emotional and cognitive impact these messaging strategies have on vote choice. She was the recipient of the Georgia State University Provost Dissertation Fellowship from January-December 2019 and the Department of Political Science Doctoral Research Fellowship for Summer 2019. Kristina has received institutional recognition for her innovation in the classroom as the Fall 2019 recipient of the Certificate of Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award. She received a Master’s degree in Political Science from GSU in 2014 and a Bachelor’s degree in History from Valdosta State University in 2010.

168675068_10159005334544380_7301669101912462557_nKristina’s primary field of study is American political behavior with an emphasis on emotional and cognitive processing, gender stereotypes, and identity politics. Kristina spent most of her graduate career developing specializations in quantitative, qualitative, and experimental methodology, pedagogical innovation in the digital classroom, and mentoring undergraduate student research. She has worked closely with Georgia State’s Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) to help faculty develop creative digital content for online graduate courses in the College of Arts and Sciences. And for the last five years, she has been an active mentor and leader for the Zoukis Summer Research Collaborative.
